High blood pressure defined

High Blood Pressure or hypertension can be defined as the force applied by the blood on the veins and arteries while circulating in the body. Blood pressure is measured by using two different numbers. Systolic pressure, the top number, measures blood pressure, as the heart contracts and pushes blood through the arteries. Diastolic pressure, the bottom number, is taken when the heart relaxes. Normally, your blood pressure should be around 120/80 or lower, but it may vary from person to person and can even fluctuate from moment to moment.

So, if your reading is high on one or two occasions does this mean you have high blood pressure? No. But if your blood pressure has measured 140/90 or higher on at least two separate occasions, your physician is certain to check you for high blood pressure.

Causes of high blood pressure

Modern lifestyle of high mental stress and less physical activity seems to be the prime cause of high blood pressure. But, causes may not always be known. Genetics also plays a role, as this disease is known to run in families. However, it?s more common in people who are heavy smokers, drinkers, obese and those with a family history of high blood pressure and stroke. Even thickening, hardening and narrowing of the walls of the arteries, called arteriosclerosis, can cause it.

Hi – I absolutely ELIMINATED my high blood pressure with one simple dietary modification (seriously – I did nothing else for one month except this one thing to see its effect). I went from having 170/90 to 110/60 in 3 mos. I eat a piece of whole grain toast (or 2) which has 12 grains or more and I use flax seed oil on it. You must let the toast cool before using the flax seed oil on it, as the oil must be kept refrigerated. You must eat it once youve spread it on – cant let it sit out. It tastes a teensy bit strange the first few times you try it, but you get used to it very quickly. It has the exact same consistency as melted butter when you eat it. I now look forward to it every morning, and I now actually really enjoy the taste. It really helps and OH SO SIMPLE!
