		<description>This is an area where we have been misled as well. Here&#039;s why you cannot lose body fat on a low calorie diet:

  Two hours after eating your body has used or stored the available sugar energy from your last meal. Because your body needs constant refueling,it begins to need more energy at this time.It takes energy from liver glycogen to keep your blood sugar level highly controlled. At the same time the muscles use their glycogen for energy. As your glycogen stores are being used, some fat is burned off as well. Suddenly you see weight loss. You can lose up to nine pounds the first week because glycogen weighs more than fat. But this is the stage of low calorie dieting when most people lose the battle. When the glycogen stores are depleted, it is difficult for the liver to regulate the blood sugar supply to the brain. Within one to two weeks your body demands the sugar it has been deprived of. At this point, you resume eating more calories. &quot;Or,&quot; if you have the will-power, aided by some form of stimulant, you continue your low calorie diet. If you continue with the low calorie diet, your body is forced to take material from bones and muscles to keep the brain and kidneys going. But you do not recognize you are burning body mass. All you are concerned with is that you are beginning to weigh less.You keep eating a low calorie diet, looking at the scale and thinking you are on the right track. Your body continues to burn fat too. But the fat loss is minimal compared to the destruction that is taking place in your muscles and bones. Your metabolism begins to slow down, preventing your body from using too much muscle and bone mass as building material. You are now down to your goal weight and /or you cannot continue to diet any longer. At this point, you have less lean body mass and a lower metabolism. When you resume eating normal amounts of food you get back all the lean body mass you lost, plus more body fat. If you are young your body metabolism goes back to where it was before you began your diet. Now, however,you have more body fat than you started with. Because you gained back more body fat than you had before you started your diet,you are inclined to diet again. This time you resolve to do better. You blame your increased body fat on your lack of will-power. You didn&#039;t restrict your calories enough, or you didn&#039;t stay on your diet long enough, or when you resumed eating normally, you ate too much. So you diet again and the same thing happens. You are now on the Yo-Yo track.
  This up and down effect is occurring because every time you diet you lose more lean mass and bone and deprive your body of the nutrients needed to maintain a healthy hormone system. By the time you have gone on multiple diets, losing and regaining weight, a major shift has occurred in your body composition as well as your hormone system. This compounds as you get older. Every time you diet you have less potential for rebuilding muscle,less potential for burning body fat, and more potential for storing body fat. Dieting upsets the balance of the human body needs for constant nourishment. When you diet your body perceives a famine and starts to slow down metabolic functions in the attempt to conserve its own lean body mass.If you diet drastically, with liquid fasts or five-hundred calorie weight reduction programs, the damage occurs faster. 
 It is impossible to safely lose more than two pounds of body fat a week if you have a high metabolism and exercise rigorously. Most people have a goal of achieving a certain weight, but it should be done slowly and with a proper diet.
