Natural Cures For Fevers
When you’re feeling out of whack, a fever lets you know when sickness or underlying conditions have taken over your body. In adults, fevers are uncomfortable, but aren’t a serious threat until body temperature reaches 103 F or higher. Helping us identify infection and alerting us to underlying conditions, investigate your symptoms and then seek relief by using natural cures for fevers.
Causes and Symptoms
Throughout the day, your normal body temperature varies. For example, it is lower in the morning and rises in the late afternoon and evening. A normal range is between 97 F and 99 F. Aside from sickness and other factors, your temperature is also affected by a menstrual cycle and strenuous exercise. In some cases, it is difficult to pinpoint the source of a fever. Viral or bacterial infections are usually behind the cause, but the following conditions and circumstances may also lead to abnormal body temperatures :
• Heat exhaustion
• Extreme sunburn
• Inflammatory conditions (such as rheumatoid arthritis)
• Malignant tumors
• Some forms of kidney cancer
• Certain medications (antibiotics, blood pressure drugs, or seizure medication)
• Some immunizations (diphtheria, tetanus or pneumococcal vaccines)
A fever typically causes an individual to sweat, shiver, and lose their appetite. They may also suffer headaches, muscle aches, dehydration, and general weakness. Common symptoms of fevers that reach temperatures between 103 F and 106 F include confusion, irritability, convulsions, and hallucinations. In a small percentage of children younger than five, fever-induced seizures (called febrile seizures) may occur, where a child’s temperature rises or falls rapidly with brief periods of unconsciousness and convulsions.
