I have five ant traps on the go...which have done very little, I stand around with a bottle of windex and spray them...it kills them instantly. I may also try the plate of beer. He was always amazed to come into my unit and find that I had no bugs. Told him my aunt taught me one thing: dried bay leaves placed in the kitchen cabinets. Apparently they hate the smell. It is actually Un-Cooked Cream of Wheat that expands and kills the ants. If you cook it first it's already expanded and will only feed your problem..
